Madurai Medical College. MBBS 150 Seats. PG 200 Seats. A government medical institution that came into existence in the year 1954 at Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
The medical college is the 3rd oldest medical institution in Tamil Nadu. The affiliated university is The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

Origin of College: The beginning of the college goes back to 1842 as a hospital. In 1930 the Governor of Madras Presidency, Sir Lord Erskine helped with the growth of the hospital. Later in 1940 Sir Authur Hope the Governor of Madras named the hospital after Lord Erskine.
Erskine hospital became a teaching and attached hospital in 1956. Madurai Medical College was attached to this hospital.
In 1980 the hospital was renamed as Government Rajaji Hospital.
In the year 1954 Madurai Med. College was inaugurated by the then chief minister K Kamaraj. The medical college got the affiliation and recognition of University of Madras.
In the year 1961 Medical Council of India gave recognition to Madurai Medical College.
Admission in MBBS Course – For getting admission into MBBS course, the students are admitted based on marks in their 12th class board examinations.
The process of admission is conducted by Selection Committee Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai.
The selection of the students is done based on the marks obtained in their 12th board examination for 85% seats and remaining 15% all India quota. No Entrance Test.

Madurai Medical College set to Increase MBBS Seats
As per the minutes of meeting released by Health Ministry in the high powered meeting held on 29 December 2014.
An approval has been given for the proposal to increase the annual intake of MBBS seats for the academic year 2015-16 in Madurai Medical College.
