A government medical college founded in the year 1838 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Second oldest medical college & hospital in Tamil Nadu and the affiliated university is Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

MBBS, MD, MS, DM, MCh & Diploma Courses – The UG course is MBBS. The PG courses are in Diploma, MD, MS, DM and MCh.  The Courses are recognized by Medical Council of India.

Origin of College – In 1740, the college originated as a medical department in East India Company and remained so until 1830, entered philanthropist Raja Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar who endowed a hospital to native Infirmary. Followed by Madras University in 1836 establishing medical courses. Fast forwarding to 1911, LMP diplomas were awarded to the first passing graduates.

Then came the year 1933, saw the inauguration of Diploma in Medicine & Surgery Course, by Lt, Colonel Sir George Fredrick Stanley, a British Parliamentarian. Finally in 1938 was born Stanley Medical College, named after Lt Colonel Sir George Fredrick Stanley, by the then Governor of Madras Presidency.

Admission in MBBS Course – For getting admission into MBBS course in Stanley Medical College, Chennai, the students are admitted based on marks in their 12th class board examinations – Process conducted by Selection Committee Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai.  The selection of the students is done based on the marks obtained in their 12th board examination for 85% seats and remaining 15% all India quota. No Entrance Test.
