A government medical college founded in the year 1838 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Second oldest medical college & hospital in Tamil Nadu and the affiliated university is Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

Origin of College – In 1740, the college originated as a medical department in East India Company and remained so until 1830, entered philanthropist Raja Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar who endowed a hospital to native Infirmary. Followed by Madras University in 1836 establishing medical courses. Fast forwarding to 1911, LMP diplomas were awarded to the first passing graduates.
Then came the year 1933, saw the inauguration of Diploma in Medicine & Surgery Course, by Lt, Colonel Sir George Fredrick Stanley, a British Parliamentarian. Finally in 1938 was born Stanley Medical College, named after Lt Colonel Sir George Fredrick Stanley, by the then Governor of Madras Presidency.
