Only 10000 qualified in NEET UG 2017 from Gujarat. Total registered candidates for NEET in this state were 90000.
The percentage of passing NEET is far below expectations in comparison to some other states of India.
One of the reasons for this result could be the confusion of the English medium and Gujarat medium paper.
The debate was wide enough that one of the paper was tougher than the other. Hence no uniformity.
The declaration of the NEET UG 2017 results delay; was due to the stay order of High Court of Tamil Nadu.
There are, at the time of writing this article, 3830 MBBS seats in 24 medical colleges of Gujarat.
That means almost all of them will expext a call for counseling.
This year (2017) 2 new medical colleges have permission from Medical Council of India for taking admissions.
Name of the College is Dr. M.K. Shah Medical College & Research Centre, Ahmedabad. This college is affiliated to Gujarat University. The intake per year in this Ahmedabad-based college is 150. The management of this medical college is a private trust.
The other college is GMERS Medical College, Vadnagar, Mehsana. Affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan. The intake per year in this Vadnagar, Mehsana-based college is 150. The management of this medical college is a Govt-Society.
10000 qualified in NEET UG 2017 from Gujarat but with Top Ranks
Coming back to Gujarat; in spite of only 10000 getting NEET qualified, there 2 candidates who have made it to the first 25 rank. Nishita Purohit and Vishnu Singhal.
Incidentally, Nishita also happens to be the topper in AIIMS.
Till last year the preparation of merit list was by the Gujarat Admissions Committee. This year CBSE will send the rank and the merit list.
However, the Directorate Medical Education of Gujarat will conduct the counseling for the merit seats; as well as the management / NRI quota seats in private medical colleges.
Best wishes to 10000 qualified in NEET UG 2017 from Gujarat.
