MCI derecognizes 400 MBBS seats in 3 Colleges of West Bengal because of deficiencies in the infrastructural facilities.


Hence the students of West Bengal lose opportunity to compete for less number of MBBS seats. Hence now only 2200 seats are available to eligible NEET candidates from earlier of 2600 MBBS seats.

The 3 medical colleges which lose the seats are:

  • MCI debars Gouri Devi Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Durgapur College; from admission of 150 seats for two academic years starting from 2017-18 and 2018-19.
  • ICARE Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Haldia, Purba Midanpore has not been permitted for renewal of permission of 100 seats for the academic year 2017-18.
  • IQ-City Medical College, Burdwan also has no permission for renewal of permission of 150 seats for 2017-18.

All of the colleges are having affiliation to West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata.
