There are 11 medical colleges from the 50 in Maharashtra that are having Deemed University status, one is state owned and the remaining 10 are managed by private trusts.

Among the 25 government medical colleges in Maharashtra 6 offering only PG Courses and no MBBS.

And in 25 private-trust managed Medical colleges only 3 are offering only PG and no MBBS.

Affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik – Most of the medical colleges in Maharashtra, except the Mumbai University and Deemed University medical institution, are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

A common entrance examinations is conducted for admission to MBBS, PG Medical Degree and Diploma Courses in the Government / Private medical colleges in Maharashtra affiliated to the University of Health Sciences which implements uniform curriculum.

“The number of seats available every year in these medical colleges in Maharashtra for admission in UG (MBBS) are 4795 and PG (MD / MS / PG Diploma ) are 2831.”

Recognized by Medical Council of India – The MBBS / PG degree awarded by the university is recognized by Medical Council of India, a statutory body, established by the India Medical Council Act responsible for establishing and maintaining uniform standard of medical education and recognition of medical qualification of India & abroad.

Common Entrance Test for Maharashtra & Non-Maharashtra Students

A common entrance test is conducted for the students for admission in medical colleges in Maharashtra. For Maharashtra local students the common entrance test MHCET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) is conducted by DMER (Directorate of Medical Education and Research).

For Non-Maharashtra students a common entrance test is conducted by AMUPMDC (Association of Managements of Un-aided Private Medical & Dental Colleges, Maharashtra).

Then we have the Deemed universities who conduct their own entrance test and have autonomous rules for admitting students.
